MASON CITY, Iowa – Kyle Moses (So., Saint Ansgar, IA) and Drew Verstegan (Fr., Mason City, IA) allowed only one hit each as seventh-ranked NIACC baseball team swept Dakota County Technical College (MN), 2-1 and 7-1.

Moses (1-0) earned his first win of the season in game one by pitching six innings for the Trojans (20-3).  He struggled early with three hit-by-pitches and a walk in the first inning, but had little difficulty the rest of the way.  He had a no-hitter during the sixth inning, but a single by DCTC’s Kyle O’Neal ended that bid.

Verstegan, who moved to 2-0 this season with the game two win, also had a solid game with seven strikeouts and no runs allowed.  He didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning.

Offensively, Jose Perez (Fr., Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) had three RBI over the two games.  In game one, NIACC scored one run in the first off a hit by Perez and one run in the third off a single by Nick Tillo (So., Sioux City, IA)  Tillo was the only Trojan to record two hits in game one.

In game two, Perez had two RBI and Nate Olin (So., Galesburg, IL) had two hits.  The Trojans scored two runs in the second and third innings and three in the fifth.

Dakota County, which scored their first run in the first inning of game one, ended the doubleheader with a run in the seventh of game two.

NIACC will travel to Cedar Rapids for a weekend series against Kirkwood this weekend.
