ROCHESTER, Minn. – NIACC softball started its season off with a split at the Yellowjacket Classic on Saturday, losing to the Gustavus Adolphus JV 5-3 in eight innings, and beating Madison Area Technical College 12-1 in five innings.
Freshman Cassie Pappas (Mason City, IA) led NIACC (1-1 overall) with four hits over the two games, and drove in two RBI in the first game. Hailey Eckstein (Fr., Larsen, WI) pitched the whole first game and had two strikeouts for her efforts.
Jessica Robinett (Fr., Maxwell, IA) had four strikeouts during a no-hitter against Madison. Offensively, Krista Grutz (Fr., Dubuque, IA) had four RBI, and Lisa Jorgensen (Fr., Rockwell, IA) recorded two RBI. The Trojans broke the game open with a seven run third-inning.
NIACC will be off this week, but will play eight games in four days when they travel down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Snowbird Classic on March 12 through March 15.
