Judge orders Anthony to pay nearly $150,000 for search for Caylee

By Susan Jacobson, The Orlando Sentinel

ORLANDO, Fla. ó Casey Anthony, who was acquitted in the death of her daughter, Caylee, must pay the Orange County Sheriff’s Office more than $145,000 for its cost of searching for the 2-year-old, a court ruling released Friday says.

The Sheriff’s Office had resubmitted documents to further detail the cost of its search for Caylee, conducted from July 15, 2008, through Sept. 29, 2008.

Chief Circuit Judge Belvin Perry wrote in a ruling signed Thursday that Anthony, 25, lied about where Caylee was and made “other misrepresentations to law enforcement.”

Caylee was missing for a month before the Sheriff’s Office was notified in July 2008. Her body was found in December 2008. A jury found Anthony not guilty in July.

Perry previously had ordered Anthony, who is unemployed and on probation in a separate case, to reimburse the Sheriff’s Office $25,837.96 for its cost of investigation. She has now been ordered to pay an additional $119,822.25, for a total of $145,660.21.

“We’re glad the judge was able to reconsider the information,” said Capt. Angelo Nieves, a sheriff’s spokesman.
