Rural Mason City Man Arrested for Alleged Car Theft

Early Sunday morning two Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s deputies went to a rural Mason City residence at 16933 220th Street as part of an investigation. Deputies arrested Jay Paulsen, age 38, for operating without owner consent, driving while barred, driving while revoked (OWI related), and driving while suspended. Paulsen was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail shortly after 2 a.m., where he remains on $5000 bond. Paulsen’s next scheduled court date is Friday, September 23rd at 8:30am.

Court records show Paulsen is currently on parole following a 3rd or subsequent offense OWI conviction in Cerro Gordo County in May of 2009. In that case he also had a child in the vehicle and was initially charged with child endangerment. As part of the plea agreement for the 3rd OWI the child endangerment was dismissed by the court.

Jay Paulsen

Subject is innocent until proven guilty.
