Northwood Man Arrested for Death of Seven Year Old Kadyn Halverson

Northwood, IOWA — Today, law enforcement arrested 31 year old Aaron Gunderson of Northwood, Iowa. Gunderson was charged with three counts: Vehicular Homicide, a Class B felony; Vehicular Homicide, a Class C Felony; Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury Accident Resulting in Death, a Class D felony.

Complaints and Affidavit on Aaron Gunderson

On May 10, 2011 at 7:49 AM, seven year old Kadyn Halverson of Kensett, Iowa was attempting to cross Raven Avenue in rural Worth County to board a school bus. At that time, Gunderson was traveling southbound in his red, Chevrolet Silverado pickup on Raven Avenue. Gunderson failed to stop for the flashing lights and extended stop sign of the school bus. He struck Halverson and then continued southbound, without stopping at the scene of the crash.

Halverson was transported to Mercy Hospital in Mason City, and subsequently died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Gunderson is being held in the Worth County Jail on an $85,000 cash only bond.

The investigation into the hit and run death of Kadyn Halverson continues; assisting agencies include the Iowa State Patrol, Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Worth County Attorney and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
