Clear Lake Fourth of July Parade held in perfect weather

Clear Lake held its annual Fourth of July Parade on a perfect Monday morning.

Celebrity politicians Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachman were there, walking the parade route and shaking hands.

Enthusiastic Bachman supporter Judy Hilgendorf of Clear Lake wanted to get close to Bachman and get a hand shake. “Here she comes, here come Michelle, I want to shake her hand,” Hilgendorf said. Bachman had many reporters, photographers and supporters around her; it was hard to get close. However, Bachman was full of smiles and willingness to shake people’s hands.

A little later, Hilgendorf said, “Here comes my husband’s float, he’s the one in the red suspenders.” Judy’s husband, Jim, and friends were dressed as little people, hiding their legs, and having shoes attached to their knee area. They were dancing and asking you to come in for a short one.

Autumn Colglazier, wife of Dave Colglazier who died in the tragic airplane accident in 2009, held up his tradition by helping promote the Franklin County Fair. He rode in their float encouraging everyone to come to Hampton and attend the fair.

Kids ran along the parade route collecting candy, as they do nearly every year.

Shortly before before the parade ended, a photographer wanted to get a picture of Judy Hilgendorf. His name was Danny Wilcox Frasier. He is a well know photographer for people of Iowa and the world (more on Danny in a future story) and was doing some work for Time Magazine. He said to make sure we see next weeks edition.
