The Elmwood – St. Joseph Municipal Cemetery Memorial Day decoration removal date is Friday, June 10, 2011. Family and friends that want to keep meaningful decorations that they have placed on family member’s gravesites should have them picked up by this date.
The City of Mason City and Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery staff will begin removing and disposing of non-regulation decorations after this date. Regulations allow flowers, either live or artificial, and other decoration in oblong metal, wood, or plastic boxes, not exceeding 8″x 36″, or in receding vases to remain on graves at all times.
Family members are encouraged to report any missing decorations prior to the removal date. Elmwood-St. Joseph has implemented Sentry Patrols to watch the grounds to prevent theft from graves and is wanting to track any improvements the program is making.
