Steps being taken to place 457 Steam Locomotive on historic register

The group made their intentions known in a memo to City Administrator Brent Trout from Volunteer Coordinator Mary Zishka. Zishka is helping the group coordinate their efforts with the City in order to utilize any grants or other funding that might help the process along.

The train will be 100 years old in 2012, according to the memo.

The Friends of the 457 group has made a lot of progress in the restoration of the train. According to its website, “Volunteers of every age turned out to assist with cleaning, scraping, and painting the locomotive and tender. By the spring of 2005, the engine had been cosmetically restored and was reopened to the public with volunteer support on weekends. The Friends of the 457 committee was established to carry on the work of restoration and preservation.”
