Political parties to caucus Monday night

MASON CITY – Caucuses will be held in Iowa on Monday evening for the top three political parties.

The caucuses determine party platforms, delegates and precinct reps.

Democrats will caucus Monday, February 5 at 7 PM at Lincoln Intermediate School, located at 1625 South Penn Avenue in Mason City.

Republicans will caucus Monday, February 5 at 7 PM at the Mason City High School (cafeteria). All 26 precincts will caucus together. Registration begins at 6 PM. Election of central committee members, election of delegates for county convention and party platform submittals are on the agenda.

The Libertarian Party will also hold regional caucuses on February 5th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at all sites, with check-in starting at 6:00 PM. Region 5, which includes Cerro Gordo county, will be at the Ames Microtel, 2216 SE 16th Street in Ames. Region 9, which includes Floyd county, will be at Cedar Heights Elementary School, 2417 Rainbow Drive in Cedar Falls. This is the first caucus as a major party for the Libertarians.

I hope these political candidates do not carry any baggage with them, and they can stand their ground for the people.

It is going to be a long road ahead. I only hope they have the guts to fight back when needed for the people who vote for them, and not the leader of their party.

After all it is We the People who are paying their salary when elected.

It won’t happen. They all start out with good intentions and then the party gets their hooks in them and they cave.
