MASON CITY – Mason City police are investigating an alleged attack that took place in the Southbridge Mall parking lot in which a man grabbed a woman and proceeded to touch himself.
Mason City police confirm that there was an attack at Southbridge Mall on Saturday, January 6, 2018, and officers responded at 7:01 AM. A female victim had been assaulted by a male in the parking lot. The two were not known to one another prior to the assault.
According to a source familiar with the incident, a man approached a female employee’s car window when she arrived to work to park in the mall parking lot. The male knocked on her window and she put the window down. The source tells NIT that he then “grabbed her breast and began to pleasure himself.” The suspect finally let go but still hung around outside her window and did his business, even as she was putting the window up and she began to call on her phone. Another employee rolled up and the man ran away. An assault report was taken and an investigation was made at the scene.
NIT is told the alleged victim may have picked out the potential suspect from a lineup of some kind.
According to the source, management at the large retailer where the alleged victim works have not in any way addressed the incident with employees, but, “we are using the buddy system” when leaving work.

On a more serious note my sister worked up in the food court and had to park in he lower parking lot, this was 25 years ago when she was a teenager and the mall was actually busy. The store had a “buddy” system also in that the female employees would close up the shop together and walk down to the lower parking lot together. I remember sitting at the bar in the corner of the mall and around 9:15pm 15-20 ladies would all be walking together out the mall doors down the parking lot.
