FREDERICKSBURG, TX – Rockford native and best-selling author Robert James Waller has died in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Waller wrote “The Bridges of Madison County,” a popular, romantic novel that was released in 1992 and topped the New York Times Bestseller list and sold 50 million copies. A movie, The Bridges of Madison County (1995), was later based upon the book, which starred Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.
Waller also was a University of Northern Iowa professor and graduate.
Waller was 77.
