MASON CITY – A rural Worth county man who was paroled from prison in 2012 after serving nearly 6 years behind bars has been caught for the third time within the last month for driving without a license as he faces trial for felony drug possession.
Donald J. Reuter, age 52, was pulled over Wednesday by a Cerro Gordo deputy near 7th Street NW and Penn Avenue in Mason City. Reuter has no driver’s license, and is due to stand trial in Worth county for felony drug possession and two recent arrests for driving without a license. Both arrests were in February. Reuter had just been arraigned in court Monday and a trial date was set of April 29 on the felony drug possession charge.
Reuter had been paroled from prison on October 9, 2012, after serving 5 years and 10 months in prison. Reuter had been sentenced to prison in January 2007 following a guilty plea in Hancock County to a class C felony 1st degree theft of more than $10,000 from a Garner Business. Just a few days after his parole from prison, On October 29, 2012, a rural resident in the 5400 block of 275TH Street to the north of Clear Lake called the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department to report someone pulling up to his fuel barrel and trying to get gas from it. When deputies encountered Reuter he was found he had no valid driver’s license and an open container of alcohol in the vehicle he was driving. Reuter was not charged with theft because he was unable to get any gas. Reuter was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and refused to take a BAC test at 2:25pm. Reuter was then booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail on one serious misdemeanor count of OWI 1st offense, and one simple misdemeanor count of criminal trespass. Reuter was also cited for open container – by driver, and no valid drivers license. He later pleaded guilty.
According to the Iowa Department of Corrections Reuter is under their supervision while he is on parole. Reuter is not scheduled to be off parole until April 24th, 2016.
