NIACC’s Palmeter wins mile at regionals in school record time

STORM LAKE – NIACC’s Hannah Palmeter set another school record on Saturday at the NJCAA Region XI meet on the Buena Vista campus.

The sophomore won the mile run in a school record time of 5 minutes, 6.69 seconds to help lead the Lady Trojans to a third-place finish in the team standings with 79 points.

Iowa Central won the women’s team title with 320 points. Iowa Western was second with 129 points.

Palmeter broke her own school record in the mile of 5:09.87 at the Northern Iowa Jack Jennett Invitational on Jan. 30.

Also for the Lady Trojans, sophomore Rellie Kaputin tied for first place in the high jump with a leap of 1.66 meters. She was also second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.61 meters.

The Lady Trojans’ distance medley relay team of Nicolle Hewett, Jessica Kingston, Emmorie Stokka and Alyssa Cowan placed second in a time of 14:14.67. The Lady Trojans also received a second-place finish from Kalama Towarap in the 800 (2:27.72).

LaBrisha Michael placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 14.77 meters. Leta Jaquis was sixth in the 600 (1:51.32) and Palmeter was sixth in the 1,000 (3:14.94).

The NIACC men also placed third at the regional meet with 59 points. Iowa Central was the team champion with 272 points and Iowa Western was second with 228 points.

Trey Simons led the NIACC men with a second-place finish in the mile (4:24.34). NIACC’s Imad Amenzou was third in the mile (4:26.54).

The Trojans’ distance medley relay team of Tyler Randall, Levi Meyer, Colton Segerstrom and Jaime Zarate was second in 11:23.01.

Also for the Trojans, John Enright was third in the 600 (1:23.58) and Oryiane Espeut was fourth (1:24.95). Enright was fourth in the 800 (2:01.54), Amenzou was fourth in the 1,000 (2:34.48) and the 4×400 team of Enright, Espeut, Taylor Nelson and Brad Petersen was sixth (3:33.81).

On Friday, Kaputin placed second in the long jump with a school-record leap of 5.79 meters.

Also, NIACC’s Adrine Monagi placed second in the pentathlon with a school record 3,405 points.

Kaputin broke her old school mark of 5.73, which she set at last year’s national indoor meet. Monagi broke the school pentathlon record of 3,333 points held by Tanesha Edmond at the 2012 national indoor meet.

Also for the NIACC women on Friday, the Lady Trojans’ 4×800-meter relay team of Towarap, Hewett, Stokka and Cowan placed third in a time of 10 minutes, 37.73 seconds.

Michael was second in the shot put and Monagi was eight in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 5.42 meters.

For the NIACC men on Friday, the 4×800 team of Enright, Amenzou, Espeut and Simons placed second in 7:58.64.
