Lazy citizens allow careless leaders to destroy historic school

NIT OPINION –

The fence is coming
The fence is coming

The metal poles were slammed into the concrete Thursday; a fence will be erected. A backhoe sits at the ready, around back of the historic structure that will soon be sequestered and then pulverized.

The wrecking ball looms again in Mason City; another little piece of history will soon be reduced to a mangled pile of dust and debris, to be forgotten forever.

How did we reach this sad conclusion?

The blame lays at the feet of the people of Mason City. They are lazy. They are too busy to be bothered. They don’t care enough to get involved.  They don’t vote and they don’t attend meetings.  They allow themselves to be dumber than their leaders. Yes, a meager, worthless effort was mounted well after the decision was made to swing the wrecking ball at the old gal where so many of us once graced the hallways. Creating a Facebook page to “Save Madison School” a couple of weeks before the execution date is sloppy; it is nothing; it is an effort to clear your conscience. You might as well whistle into the wind. You needed to attend the meetings held inside the bowels of Madison School, months ago, when the school board and other district leaders humored us all by listening to our ideas on what to do with the school. They nodded and complimented us on our ideas; they put on an act, pretended to care.  An octogenarian lady who truly cares has more energy and spirit than all of you rolled into a ball and spit out the end of a straw.

The sign on the front of the building is gone.
The sign on the front of the building is gone.

Some of us knew the decision was already made.  We are not the fools they take us for.

Turns out, the community NEEDS that school, it needs that facility. Our Recreation Department needs a gym, offices, classrooms, etc. All of which Madison School offers. Yes, people would have had to roll up their sleeves and get to work to polish the old gem to make it useful. Nothing is truly free.  A few walls might have had to come down. A few dollars would have had to be spent.  The city and the school district would have had to make an agreement to hand over the property.  But an urgent need in the community would have been met, and it would be good to go for years once completed. Do not listen to the “out of code talk”; seventh graders recently attended classes in that building.  Lies and deception are part of the sewage that spews from the mouths of some of the people in charge of this town.  The dumber they keep you, the less power you have, and the more they can control you.  And your town becomes unrecognizable to those who left and “come back” … and then quickly leave again.

At the end of the day, as we are all finding out the hard way, Mason City lacks healthy leadership. It lacks people ready to get down and dirty and make a difference. And I’m not talking about picking up trash in Central Park.  It lacks people willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work and contribute. Mason City has a swath of boat anchors for leaders. The school district and the city of Mason City do not communicate much, unless it is about sending more cops to the schools to keep the heathens from beating and robbing each other. Our community is a mess, and the demolition of Madison School is a direct result.

Live with that reality, because you have no plans to do anything about it anyway.

what about the old high school?? condemmended unsafe, need a new one. determan is making a mint off of it and has been for years. I heard he got it for $12,000 what a deal

Mason city school system couldn’t afford to keep it open as a school so why in the hell would they want to make it a rec room?! Who’s going to pay the heat and water bill. NITwits? lol! They bch about taxes so why would they want to pay? Talk is cheap NITwit. Gotta hate on somebody today. Might as well be well meaning citizens and the school super. Wonder who tomm. target is. Old ladies? Starting with Mrs. Easily nasty mouthpiece.

From a guy that coaches out at the Salvation Army, one big issue is parking. I know on a given Saturday the neighborhood would be absolutely pissed about all the cars parked all day in their block if this school was refurbished. It would be a mess. Go to a flag football game on a Saturday down at Norris Youth and you will see what I mean.

P&R should combine space out in the Fairgrounds and refurbish to put in basketball courts, sporting areas, etc. and share with the fairgrounds.

it whould not mmatter thay want it donw thay saybcost less bild something new is a lie thay want it gone sonthaybgot there way unfortunately

Anonymous you are correct. What Anita wants she gets just like our drunken mayor. This building would of been a great place for the rec dept. Heck Charlie Brown could use a bigger building so everything is in one building. Our leaders just cant think anymore, they all think their asses are perfect but if they look in the mirror they will see they have a crack in it.

The school board does what Anita wants. Anita wants the building torn down, it’s coming down. Anita wants a raise, she gets a raise. Anita wants , Anita gets. This building was good enough to use for a school a few years ago during renovations at john adams and the high school. I’m sure it could have been used for something. The school board could have donated it to the Recreation Department who is in need of a facility like this. But God forbid if Anita gave back to the community.

I don’t see you applying for the job of super. Oh that’s right….you’re UNder qualified. Nuff said.

The only lazy citizens I’ve seen lately are the idiots from North Iowa Today, your existence alone is the biggest embarassment in Mason City. I’m not a fan of Bookmeyer…not a fan of Lala either, but I’m not running around town crying about it because this town didn’t vote me into council. The citizens of Mason City are not lazy, and not all of our leaders are careless… Now all of you NIT ‘volunteers’ get off your lazy butts, stop living carelessly and go out and get real jobs!

@Jennifer-You are obviously a establishment lackey. Only a complete fool would post something like that. Did you run for council? Have you ever done anything in your wasted lief to try to help someone who needs it?

You go girl and pay no mind to LVS. He’s lives here in NIT Land and calls people names when he disagrees. LVS is harmless and not to be taken seriously.

Annie Moose is just another establishment lackey.

Who wrote this dribble?

Impossible. My mother’s passed away. This looks like the work of our little town bully. The writing skills seem consistently inferior.

Busted! It’s the work of very own, the infamous, sour grapes, whine and cheezy, Mad Matt.

The head psycho babble. Obviously. He writes like a troll.

Why didn’t Good Shepherd buy it and renovate it into senior living instead of tearing down more houses, relocating more families & building new apartments? It would have been a lot cheaper and families not uprooted. The building wouldn’t need to be located next to Good Shepherd.

nice way to talk about your readers

lol! Good one…toche’

So sad. Wonderful school with really great teachers and some of the best principals ever, like Mr. Bailey and Ms. Clifford.

Couldn’t someone make apartments out of the school? They’ve done it with others. It’s such a neat building.

@JMO-the last old school they turned into a apartment building was turned into a low income drug house. The police were there every day until some idiot cooking meth burned it down. We have enough slum apartments in town without creating any more. Now, if they want to make it a affordable apartment building for seniors it would make sense.

If you are referring to the schoolhouse apartments, that was arson not a meth lab fire.I lived right across the street from them. Hardly ever seen any cops out there. Get your facts straight.

@James-You are full of crap. I live up the street from there and have lived here a hell of a lot longer than you. You are probably the dopper that burned down the old school house.

Once again you comment without checking your facts. Nothing but a dbag troll who needs to get a life. Btw not a I’m not a doper.

No, but you certainly are a liar and a idiot.
