Two sent to hospital after collision Thursday afternoon

Police Car LightsMASON CITY – Two men were taken to Mercy Hospital Thursday afternoon after a two-car accident outside Mason City.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, on October 23 at about 3:00 PM, 42-year-old Robert Loren Iverson of Clarks Grove, Minnesota was westbound on Highway B-20 near Mallard Avenue in a 2003 Honda Accord when his vehicle entered the eastbound lane and struck a 1995 Dodge Dakota driven by 67-year-old Raymond Dallas Thompson of Northwood.  The Accord came to rest on the roadway and the Dakota spun around into the north ditch and started on fire.  Thompson was temporarily trapped inside his vehicle.  He was freed by a passerby before emergency personnel arrived.  Mason City firefighters put the fire out.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and airbags deployed in both vehicles; both were taken to Mercy ER by fire medics and their injuries are unknown at this time.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
