WASHINGTON – United States officials today announced millions in additional humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza.

Secretary of State John Kerry announced Monday that the United States is providing more than $71 million in additional humanitarian assistance to help meet emergency needs in Gaza. More than 58,000 people are still sheltering in United Nations facilities and basic necessities like food, clean water, and fuel remain in short supply throughout the territory.

Of this contribution, $59 million supports United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) programs in Gaza, while more than $12 million supports the work of other implementing partners, including those of the United States Agency for International Development, to provide emergency water, shelter, food, and healthcare.

Kerry said in a statement that the United States “remains committed to addressing the needs of the Palestinian people.”

This assistance comes in addition to the $47 million in humanitarian assistance to Gaza announced by Secretary Kerry on July 21, for a total commitment of more than $118 million.

I don’t see where Congress gets off sending money to foreign lands when the money could be used for our own people and projects here at home to insulate us from the world, and lead by example, rather than force. This really needs to end. People of other lands need to develop their own nations with their own resources. If they don’t…too bad. Why are Americans expected to fend for themselves, yet other people get our tax dollars?

@Philly-Once again I am forced to agree with your comment. Keep it up and you will be in the real world eventually.

I’ll be in the real world when I sell my first home, and move on to build the next…and not a moment sooner!

LVS, I hate to do this (because I hate taskmasters), but I have a reading assignment for you: A few comments back you presented as if you don’t know who Ayn Rand was. This piece is a philosophical stream from a current writer imbued with the sense of what Rand envisioned. THERE IS NO JOHN GALT-AND THAT’S WORSE

I share this with you because I think you’ll like it and…

@Philly-I still do not know who Ayn Rand is and I am pretty sure I do not care. However, I did read the article you posted and there is some thought and some truth in it. I recently read an article sent to me by a socialist relative that I wish I could find for you. It is about some untruths in history that are being taught to our children. It had to do with the power brokers (bankers) and the Central Bank and how they manipulate the economy and our lives (and wars) for profit. It was a eye

cont. opening article which is probably true. As I told my relative, I can believe what was said but really do not know what can be done to stop it. Our government and wall street are all in this because of money and we are nothing but sheep with no control of our destiny. Sorry to get long winded, but it did make me think a little differently.

Well Ayn Rand’s philosophy is the direct opposite of socialist. She’s strict Laissez Faire capitalist, with the doers, inventors and workers getting all the prize, and government almost completely out of our lives. She was thought to be a fraud though, when at the end of her cancer stricken life, she relied on Medicare to pay her medical bills. She does possess many undeniable truths however, and is worth studying. I’m quite stunned that you don’t know her name.

We must not be in debt anymore if we can supply money to our enemies !!

Nice…. Now they can buy more rockets from Quater.
