RURAL MASON CITY – A Craigslist ad saying “two friendly cats” will be shot seems dark and disturbing and, unfortunately, the person who posted the ad says it’s true.

The Mason City Craigslist page has a “free” listing now posted that states “I have two friendly cats that must go. We are moving and if they aren’t gone by that time i can assure you that they will be shot after departure.”

NIT received a number of tips about the ad.

Staff informed the Mason City Human Society, who told NIT “We got a call about this ad on Craig’s List too this morning. [Law enforcement] e-mailed the poster [of the ad] and asked her to call us. We don’t have room to take in any cats right now, but we can provide her some resources and alternatives to murdering her pets.”

NIT then placed a call to the phone number listed in the ad. NIT spoke to two women , who confirmed the cats are available now and that it is true, the cats will be shot if they are not taken before the people at the residence move. Their location is near Highway 9 outside Mason City.

The ad is here, if anyone reading this wants to call about adopting the cats.

Do you suffer from KIDNEY DISEASE? Do you know that, according
to latest researches, DIALYSIS IS NOT NECESSARY? A friend of mine got off
dialysis (stage 5 CKD) and healed his kidney. Take a look:

Puppy mill rescues usually involve providing temporary shelter to purebred dogs that are then turned over to purebred rescue groups that vet them and rehome them. If a humane society participates in a puppy mill raid, they transport the dogs, contact the rescue groups, do the coordinating, and paperwork. You usually won’t see 30 Golden Retrievers from a breeder up for adoption at the local shelter because Golden Retriever Rescue will step in, take the dogs, and do home visits for adopters.

I don’t know the answers to the rest of your questions. I only know about the transportation laws. Why don’t you call the HSNI and ask them? I do not believe the HSNI takes in many dogs or cats from other areas. HSNI’s mission is to take care of North Iowa’s needs, which sometimes involves puppy mill rescues. However, Patriots for Pets has had shipments of dogs from the south in the past. Make sure you do not confuse the two shelters.

State law has specific requirements for organizations, shelters, dealers, boarding facilities, and other licensed people that transport others’ animals. The animals must be in secure cages that are attached to the vehicle. It is very appropriate that the Humane Society have a vehicle for this specific purpose instead of one that is cobbled together with bungee cords.

Ok I’ll go with that transport explanation. But you still didn’t answer all my questions. Where did the money come from to purchase that truck? Wouldn’t it be in the best interest for the Animals to expand the building for more room? Local animals need saving just as much as puppy mill dogs do don’t you agree? Did someone volunteer to design those graphics on that new truck? There’s a lot of unanswered questions here that are being ignored.

Silence, Just what I thought. Delicate questions are always hard to answer especially when you hide the truth from others! If it doesn’t put your name on the front page of the newspaper it seems that you have no interest in saving certain animals that come to your doors! I bet those kittens would of loved to have a second chance at life. They didn’t!
Pathetic!

I have a question that I hope someone can help me out with. How did the North Iowa Humane Society get their ‘Transport’ truck? Why do they need a transport truck? Don’t you think expanding your building so you have more room to take in pets would be a better idea than wasting it on a truck? I’m confused here so help me out. This is the second week that I heard that they turned down an animal. Last week it was baby kittens they turned down.

I think they added the threat for effect, hoping to expedite the removal; which apparently worked. How about just turning them loose? I’ll bet they weren’t spayed or neutered either. Whatever their impetus for posting such a disturbed listing, I think it’s sick. People and their damn pets. Why do people think they are entitled to keep animals as “pets”? The animal doesn’t want human masters. They want to be free in the wild. END THE PRACTICE OF KEEPING PETS.

These 2 have been rescued by Patriots for Pets rescue group in Clear Lake. They are currently looking for a home for these 2 boys. A permanent loving home. Not like the one they came from.

I think its great that someone stepped up but why did Patriots for pets refuse to take them in BEFORE it was reported to NIT? Will we be seeing updates on these two cats so we know they were not put down? I expect to see their profile on there website just like we see the puppies profile, right?
