CHARLES CITY – Police in Charles City confirmed this week that a woman recently arrested and charged with three felonies is the person they believe stole a purse out of a car and proceeded to use a food stamp card from that purse at local businesses.
Amy Sue Johnson, age 34, who uses an alias of Amy Myhre, was arrested by Charles City police on July 8th. She was wanted on felony charges of identity theft and forgery from incidents that took place in Charles City on July 1 and July 2, 2014. That was about the same time that a woman reported to Charles City police that her purse had been stolen out of her car, and a subject – who police believe to be Johnson – had been using her foodstamp card at area businesses. Police said they were investigating the theft of the purse and the use of the foodstamp card, and confirmed the arrest Monday.
Johnson was released from jail on July 9th. She awaits an arraignment on August 19th on the forgery and identity theft charges, of which there are several. She will be sentenced for an earlier guilty plea to a charge of unauthorized use of a credit card on July 22nd.
