City hall forces used car lot to clean up its act

MASON CITY – A used car lot on a busy Mason City street was forced by city hall to clean up its act this week.

Complaints were filed with the city’s “SeeClickFix” program regarding Wheel Man Auto, located at 1201 South Federal Avenue. One complaint stated that the used cars belonging to the business were partially covering the sidewalk in front of the business. Another complaint, filed on April 8 by a citizen, stated that used cars were parked along 12th SE just off of Federal Avenue “with no tags on them” and had been “sitting for weeks and are for sale. Looks like a junk yard.”

According to updates on Mason City’s SeeClickFix, police have visited the car dealership at least twice, and city hall employees have made contact, stating that they asked that cars be backed up off the sidewalk.  On Friday, a police officer went back to Wheel Man Auto and again asked that used cars that were blocking the sidewalk be backed up off of the public right-of-way.

“Officers had the owner move the vehicles back from the sidewalk this week, after we had done the same thing last week,” a City Hall official told NIT.

As a Blue Zone community, sidewalks are vital to the well-being of Mason City citizens who would use them for exercise or just walking to destinations instead of driving.

Regarding the cars on the street, a police officer was dispatched to Wheelman Auto Thursday morning at about 10 AM for vehicles parked on the street for several weeks with no plates. The officer reported that all the vehicles have been moved.

I don’t see anything wrong with that lot. This is Mason City after all. Give them $300,000.00 and sure they will fix it to your liking like the over done wanna be Harley Shop. Hate to tell all you Harley folks the brand has been over marketed when teachers and social workers are riding those bikes it is no longer cool.

It’s funny I see a lot of old real Harley bikers going to Honda’s because they say they would rather spend all their time riding and not fixing their bikes anymore.

I say also to leave him alone. He’s trying to make an honest living but its hard to do in MC. Always somebody gripeing about something. I know its easier to get welfare than make a living, but working for your $$ is the American way.

Maybe the car dealership could pump out some really bad smells out smokestacks, then the nuisance would be ignored for the sake of good jobs.

Hypocritical.

How many times do they have to go to this business to tell them to move the cars off the sidewalk? And why do they keep telling them? I think it time to get in to their wallet and start issuing some citations. There have been too many do-overs already.

Clean everything up for Ragbrai!!!!!!!

If not for daily living in town do it for the Rag

Car lot? I thought it was a salvage yard!

The City goes after a business. Yet they let the slumlords off easy. No wonder a company won’t come there.

I drive by here almost daily and I never see those cars on the street or sidewalk. Sounds like someone is nit picking to me.

oh wah. let the guy run his buisness. is it really bothering anyone if theres cars on the road?

How about Scotty’s on the north end.Looks like a junkyard too.

almost the whole north end looks like a junk yard. ITs not bothering anyone. the guy is trying to make a living.

It’s not?

Actually the North End is getting worse all the time what with the imports moving in. There are trailors full of junk, yards full of ole carpet and insulation (326 14th N.W. again) Another house with junk in the yard at 1514 N. Madison that has been turned in time after time. Junk cars parked all over and streets not swept. It is getting real bad again. I sure sign of lots of renters and not enough owners. The Center of town is even worse. The whole town looks like a dump.
