Insurgents taking control in Iraq

iraq_mapMOSUL, IRAQ – Reports have surfaced that well-trained militants have stormed the second-largest city in Iraq and taken control.

According to a report from Reuters, an Iraqi police officer told a reporter that “We can’t beat them. We can’t. They are well-trained in street fighting, and we’re not. We need a whole army to drive them out of Mosul.”

It was reported that Iraqi security forces fled as the insurgents advanced through the city of 1.6 million. Thousands of civilians have fled the violence.

The United States State Department said Tuesday that it is deeply concerned about the events that have transpired in Mosul over the last 48 hours, where elements of the Islamic State of Iraq (ISIL) have taken over significant parts of the city. The situation remains extremely serious. Senior U.S. officials in both Washington and Baghdad are tracking events closely in coordination with the Government of Iraq, as well as Iraqi leaders from across the political spectrum including the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and support a strong, coordinated response to push back against the aggression.

The United States plans to provide all appropriate assistance to the Government of Iraq under the Strategic Framework Agreement to help ensure that these efforts succeed. US troops left the country in December of 2011.

ISIL continues to gain strength from the situation in Syria, from which it transfers recruits, sophisticated munitions, and resources to the fight in Iraq. The US says the ISIL is not only a threat to the stability of Iraq, but a threat to the entire region. This growing threat exemplifies the need for Iraqis from all communities to work together to confront this common enemy and isolate these militant groups from the broader population.

Across Iraq in recent days, terrorist attacks in restive Anbar, Baghdad, Diyala, Ninewa, and Salah al-Din provinces that have killed and wounded scores of civilians.

Hundreds of Iraqi security force personnel have been killed and injured in the fight against the ISIL this year.  The United Nations says more than 8,800 people have died in Iraq this year.

The surge is working

LVS is going to exploit the Schrödinger’s cat paradox. “If we only stay there forever and continue pumping trillions and tens of thousands more lives the country would be “winnable” and stable.” No thanks. The war should have never happened in the first place. Cut the losses, LEARN from republican war master chicken hawks, and move on as if Dubya’s presidency never happened.

spoken like a true pacifist. If they kill us then we apologize for being in the way of their bullet.

As an Imperial Stormtrooper, didn’t it ever occur that your beloved Darth Vader was working for the Emperor’s interest all along? (Bush/Cheney=Vader –OPEC/BP,Unocal=emperor, Israel etc etc)

If you would have seen the people there begging for food and water, no not even once did I question why we were there. These people were homeless, starving, naked, living in a garbage dumb literally. I know we have people like that here in our country and we need to take care of them too but to answer your question NO I never questioned why we were there.

garbage dump not dumb

@maybe-Pacifist is just another name for coward and Philly fits that name real well. He has zero creditability as he lives in his mothers basement and sucks off the rest of us. He is a world class piece of crap and coward.

LVS your fertilizer may be good for my garden. Are you available to come poop in it?

@Philly-Just clean out your diaper. That will do just fine for the weed you are growing.

The paradox of course is that two sets of reality can occur at the same time: Iraq never happened thereby saving trillions and thousands of lives or Iraq continues to happen indefinitely at trillions more debt with thousands more lives. So if Iraq = the box, American lives and money = the cat, and the unknown future/ Iraqi behavior= the decay of the atom, the violence = the poison gas. Continuously playing with the box can get you what? More limbo paradox and a dead cat.

are you stoned right now?

Yeah, on beans and ginger ale.

@maybe-he is fall off the wall he is due to go to 5 east again real soon.

Is there ginger ale and freshly dug gardèn beds at 5 east? I require beans also, and an internet connection.

@Philly-just a straight jacket and rubber room for goofballs like you.

Will this “straight jacket” correct a spinal abnormality? A rubber room? Is that a teaching area for sexually transmitted diseases or some type of amusement area for children to play? Can I bounce ideas off you in there?

This is what happens when you just end a war instead of winning it. All of the American Soldiers and money lost in this futile war are lost thanks to Osama.

More than a few people should be in jail for all the good Americans that lost their lives for nothing over there.

I’m assuming you are referring to the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Powell/Tenet/Rice/Wolfowitz/Bremer team.

It sure wasn’t you. You ran away as fast as your drug soaked legs would carry you.

Your ignorance speaks volumes.
