MASON CITY – Contractors are being sought by the city of Mason City to clean up nuisance properties.

The city will be cracking down on nuisance properties with tall grass this spring. The city is seeking quotes from contractors to mow grass and weeds for nuisance complaints. Written proposals are being accepted at the office of Development Services in City Hall.

According to city code, the dense growth of weeds, vines, brush or any other similar vegetation or grass more than one foot (1′) in height, on property located within the city limits is declared a hazard to public safety and health and a public nuisance.

The code says that in the event a property owner fails to control, destroy or cut weeds or other growth which constitutes a nuisance, the city clerk may serve a notice upon the property owner indicating that the nuisance be abated within five days.

If the property owner fails to abate the nuisance, then the city may perform the required action and assess the costs against the property owner’s property tax.

Well if they are on the “nuisance” bandwagon, then they better damn well go after Harley’s with loud tailpipes or any jackasses with pickup trucks or cars who remove their mufflers trying to be “cool”, or get attention. This issue is long overdue for remedy. And you’re right: Whoever was supposed to be shoveling walks for the city against negligent homeowners didn’t do a good job…the sidewalks were FULL OF SNOW AND ICE from some houses that NEVER SHOVELED! CLEAR LAKE COMES TO MIND!

@Philly-Hey look. Here’s a job you can do to pay your way to Colorado. maybe your mother or Buzz will loan you a mower.

You probably don’t want your grass mowed, as it would reveal your machine gun turret. You better come up with alternative cover for your fox hole.

@Philly-Not to worry, I have a tank with mower blades on it. Come on over and I’ll show it to you.

LVS…Geez, thanks for putting that load on me! 🙂 Id buy him a goat, but I’m not sure what he’d really do with it. I doubt it would be the purpose it was intended for though. I’m sure in his mind, animal husbandry takes on a whole new meaning.

@Buzz-well for the goats sake I hope it a a male. I am not sure that would make much difference to him.

A feta cheez factory. Sounds interesting. Are there low-salt goats?…I think I’d want one of those.

…the city can these lawns mowed by the same people they hired to “NOT” clean off the sidewalks this past winter…
