MASON CITY – A long-time Mason City eyesore is getting a major remodeling job.
Daley Plumbing of Mason City is building a shop, office and showroom at the corner of 6th Street SW and President Avenue. The design incorporated a portion of the car wash that has sat at the intersection for years. Demolition work and other pre-construction details were started weeks ago. The property had been for sale for months by Kolbet Realty, from Osage.
Wednesday, despite bitterly cold temps that hovered around zero degrees, workers from Morten Buildings in Charles City were at the scene, constructing the frame for the building, which appeared to have a somewhat larger footprint than the former car wash.
No further information was immediately available on the new construction project.
Worked there many years ago when it was Jim Dandy car wash and owned by Stanley Viet. Great guy and great place for a teen to work. (not sure about the spelling of his last name.)
It’s nice to see something being done with that property. That used to be a thriving car wash, the old neighborhood just isn’t what it used to be..
