NIACC Logos staff receives first place award

The 2012 Iowa College Media Association/Iowa Newspaper Association Convention was held in Des Moines on February 2, 2012 and members of the NIACC Logos staff came back with some awards.

The Logos staff took first place for Best Editorial Leadership while Sarah McCarthy, of Mason City and current Logos editor, won second place for Best Opinion Writing. Jordan Melcher, of Osage and last year’s assistant editor, won an honorable mention for Best Page One Design. Melcher is currently a member of the Iowa State Daily staff. Jacey Wood, of Garner, won an honorable mention for Best Explanatory News Story and Akilah Hudnell, of Minneapolis, won an honorable mention for Best Sports Story.

“I’m pleased that a number of our students were recognized for their efforts over the past year as they competed with colleges and universities from across the state,” Paul Peterson, Logos adviser, said.

Logos is the student newspaper of North Iowa Area Community College and is published every other week. Printed copies of Logos are available throughout the NIACC campus and the online edition may be viewed at http://staff.niacc.edu/logos.
