Hot, Hot, Hot…Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

Every Midwestern knows the heat has been unbearable this summer. The grass is brown and the crops are withering.

The people at Big Blue can’t do anything about the heat, but they can beat it, by diving, jumping and frolicking in the cool water.

Even when out of the water, the kids had to stand in the shade to keep the sun from slamming down on them.

They have tied a rope on a branch at the opposite end of the beach, where they climb high into the tree and jump or swing. Good old fashioned kid fun.

WAIT!!! What’s in the forecast? A thunderstorm watch until 1:00 am Thursday for Cerro Gordo County? We’ll see. A slight cool breeze, lightning and a little thunder with a few sprinkles at 9:15 pm Wednesday.

A report of branches down on power lines in Thornton, causing fires around the same time, 9:15 pm.

Is the swimming pool closed?

I normally have no problem on a hot lazy day. But, it is posted NOT to dive or jump off the dock.

Shall we also allow drinking in the park, just because it is hot outside? What about letting them kids have a few beers too? After all, it is hot outside.

I have called the police more than once while trying to fish from that spot, whilst miscreants refusing to follow the rules cause a disruption. After all, I do have the right to fish there if I so desire. They on the other hand, do not have a right to use it as a diving platform.

Cry me a river! Were the kids hurting anyone? Having fun on a hot day has become a crime. Go fish somewhere else for a while you fun hater.

Let the kids have fun just be careful. They had rope there all the time 30 years ago.Just watch the little ones.Have Fun!

I can’t remember exactly, but I’m thinking that it was right around that time that a boy/man got hurt swinging from a rope at big blue. It was no fault of the cities, but the city got sued, and the rope came down. All ropes have been cut down from that area since then. I’m going to bet, this one will be to. I’m not against having fun at big blue, I swam there back when the brick yards were still operating.

I bet NIT did not even get permission to photograph or video these kids. CREEPY

And your an idiot Tommy!

Taking pictures in public is indeed legal, sorry Tom!

Taking pictures of people is not illegal. Posting them without their permission… well a person can potentially get sued for that.

Anonymous’ It is also legal to post public photos any where you want even without permission.

Jumping/diving off the dock, tying ropes to trees to swing off of is a safety issue. Should someone get hurt/injured, who do you think they are going to sue, surely not you. It has already happened, thats why it’s illegal.

It’s more likely that someone will get hurt on the new sledding hill that’s being developed. I suppose you’re going to be against kids using that, too?

You just don’t GET IT do you, JMO. When someone gets hurt on city property, whether by accident, their own stupidity, or they think that they are above the law, see above picture, jumping off the dock, they are going to sue the city. That indirectly costs me. Maybe you don’t pay taxes in this town, but I do. People are always on this site crying, whining, and bitching about the city spending money foolishly, getting sued for this would be foolish, because it’s posted and illegal. There are alot of people in this town that think they are above the law, are you one of them….you sound like it…

So answer the question! Are you against the sledding hill? It’s people like you who have made our youth so bored and restless that they’ve turned to alcohol and drugs. For God’s sake, let them have a little fun! I sure did when I was growing up!

Is sledding at Georgia Hanford illegal?

It doesn’t matter if its legal or illegal if they want to sue they will. Places like these should be covered like golf courses if you use the property you give up any right to sue if you are injured. Don’t let lawyers and fun haters steal the fun things we all enjoyed as kids.

MCPD had better start ticketing those youths!

Jumping off the fishing dock is totally illegal.

Its HOT outside let them jump off the dock for crying out loud!! It also gives them something to do. In this heat the fish are not biting anyway!!

You are right let the kids have some fun like the good old days. People wonder why kids are doing bad stuff any more it’s because there is nothing else for them to do. So I say jump all you want off the docks.

Maybe the kids should just sit and lay around so they get nice and fat – obese. That way by the time they get out of school they can be productively worthless because they are to fat and lazy to think and work.
