Clear Lake woman pleads guilty to lesser charge in officer assault case

CLEAR LAKE – On Friday, June 22nd, 36-year-old Brenda Kay Reyerson entered a negotiated voluntary plea of guilty to a lesser aggravated misdemeanor offense of interference with official acts causing bodily injury.

Reyerson had originally been charged with a Class D felony count of assault with intent to injure a peace officer following an early morning incident in Clear Lake on January 11th. She had pleaded not guilty but at a pre-trial conference agreed to a plea change to the lesser misdemeanor offence.

At the scheduled plea change hearing presiding District Associate Judge Gregg Rosenblatt suspended a $625 dollar fine on the condition of no new criminal convictions for a year. Judge Rosenblatt also sentenced Reyerson to serve 4 days in jail and pay $379 in court costs and lawyer fees.

So what do you do with a attorney general that gives guns to the drug cartel? That are then used to kill one of our border agents. Let him off with a slap on the hand that’s what.

Then maybe you should move to Iraq

For all of you that wish me to put on a badge and walk in their footsteps. Too late I already have. Served 8 years as military police and 4 years civilian. I seen how things are done. They trounce on honest americans lives as if you don’t have any rights. Try protecting and serving the public other than looking for the easy arrest. Try patrolling the north end of mason city maybe, but for them would require the swat team. Pathetic. We had more regard for the Iraqi people when I was there in 91 then our own officers do the American public.

Really, you were a cop for 4 years? or was that a different anonymous? i get you confused. Most people make that a career. If you were a cop, I guess it’s a good thing you got out before you got sued, especially if you don’t know the basics laws, like what is assault?

I’ve said it before. Walk a mile in a police officer’s shoes and then give your opinion. The ones who are complaining are most likely a friend or relative of the pos. Or a criminal themselves. She shouldn’t get a plea and she should be punished to the max.

That’s ridiculous !!! Are you a cop? The police in this area are nothing but bullies with a badge and gun. Maybe they should actually try to protect and serve the public for once. If one of them get even threatened that can be construed as assault. BS!!!

Put on their badge and do their job for a week. Ill put money on it that you change ur mind about them. After all, they put up with people like u. And wouldn’t think twice about answering ur call for help or putting their life down for yours. Its an unfortunate loss when they die or are injured for people like u.

Well there you go. You even defined assault, ie. a threat, so yes, threatening an officer or anyone is assault, not construed as assault but actually the definition of assault. Now battery is when you make contact and the 2 terms are usually used together, assault and battery, but you don’t have to have both for a crime. So yes, if you threaten an officer you have committed assault and should be charged.

This is disgusting. Our law enforcement personnel deserve better than this. There should be mandatory sentencing and fine requirements for attacks on an officer. And any judge who plays these kind of legal games should have his bona fides closely examined.

I agree. Thank u for supporting them. I’d like to see the other person who. Commented on here put on their badge for a week and put up with all the crap they do. Thanks again.
