Untarped Truck Loses Glass Window that Smashes on South Eisenhower

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – A reminder: Tarp your trucks and wagons on the way to the landfill. There may be a few out there who still don’t know.

Saturday, two men from Hampton found out the hard way.

The pair had traveled up Interstate 35, into Mason City on Highway 122 and turned south on South Eisenhower when a glass window dropped out of the back of their truck and shattered on all four lanes.

A Mason City Police Officer was on location directing traffic, but not before some unfortunate drivers drove over the broken glass. No tires appeared to blow.

Wal-Mart employees swept up the glass with the help of the two Hampton men.

The two men were informed that they would have to tarp their load. They were also told that the North Iowa Landfill will make them leave with their load and maybe get a possible fine.

They purchased a tarp and rope, covered their garbage, and proceeded on their way.

I wonder if they were cited for littering? They should have been.

Whats left in the picture of the back of the truck is only half the load. The other half is laying along the side of I35. Thats how they used to get rid of garbage back home. Overload the truck with trash/junk, drive 70 MPH down the road and it will fall out. These boys are laughing at the stupid gringos, because the didn’t get a ticket, while they’re on their way back home to mexico.

You know John, you can make smart remarks about Mexican’s but at least these men of Hispanic decent stopped to clean up their mess. I see lots of other people dumping stuff on the roadway’s and a lot of them on purpose, that just plan on leaving their crap for someone else to clean up.

Gringos, that’s funny. But they probably weren’t on their way back to the border, they were probably on their way to Walmart. It seems all the “gringos” love to go to Walmart on the weekends. If you ever want to pick up a bit of spanish that would be the place to go.

Well I can see someone ate a big @ss bowl of Dummy Puffs for breakfast this morning!

Another wonderful news story by North Iowa Today…something flew out of a vehicle and noone was effected. Doesnt that happen daily all over the country?????

People may have affected. Any one of the vehicles that drove over the broken glass may have a flat tire this morning. Traffic was stopped for clean-up, and who knows what else may have flown out on their way from Hampton. This was just a reminder, an informative bit, incase someone didn’t know.
Fire, floods, accidents, earthquakes, murders, theft, death, births, fundraisers, taxes–don’t they happen everyday? Should there be no articles on these subjects either?

One of the advantages of running a web-based newspaper is that you don’t need to edit material for length, determine what’s important or relevant, or even get the facts straight the first time. You can print every piece of information as it comes along and make corrections as you learn more. There would be no ‘paper trail’ of erroneous information. There are no editorial decisions as to what goes on the front page or what story gets pictures. In a web-based newspaper, all stories are equal.

Nothing wrong with this story. Like another post said, the landfill has required tarps for years. And this could have had quite a different outcome. What would have happened if someone was driving directly behind them when that window flew out?? How many times has the Glob reported accidents and also provided pictures of the people who were injured or died? To me, that’s distasteful. If you don’t like the news on here, don’t read it, or better yet, keep your comments to yourself.
