Oleta Fern Proctor went to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Hampton Church of Christ. A public visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home is caring for Fern and her family.
Fern was born Oleta Fern Ford on October 5, 1923, in Leon, IA, to Thomas and Catherine (Niswander) Ford, the youngest of 2 daughters. She attended Hampton Community Schools until graduating in the class of 1941.
On October 10, 1943, Fern married the love of her life Arthur Leonard Proctor. The couple lived in rural Franklin County and worked farming as they started their family. Two beautifu daughters, Susan and Ann, were welcomed in 1946 and 1948.
Fern helped Arthur on the farm and also became a housekeeper at the county offices, as well as several area homes. She also cleaned the Church of Christ that she and Arthur were devoted members of. Fern spent several decades teaching Sunday School to elementary aged children.
Family was the most important thing to Fern and she enjoyed cooking and baking for the weekly Sunday dinner at her home where she welcomed all.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Catherine Ford, step-father Frank Ford, daughter Ann Louise (Doug) Borneman, grandson David Borneman, and sister Pearl Taylor.
Left to carry on her memory is daughter Susan (David) Hungate, grandson Michael Stover, granddaughters Julie (Kris) Kramm and Dawn Burnside, Great-Grandchildren; Alexander Kramm, Samantha Kramm, Dylan Hungate, Damian Burnside, and Drayvon Burnside, and new great-great-grandson Felix Cantu.
