Convicted Iowa sex abuser dies from Covid-19 serving life sentence

IOWA CITY – A convicted Iowa sex abuser died from Covid-19 while serving a life sentence for his crimes.

Ray Gene Triplett was pronounced dead, likely due to complications related to COVID-19 and other preexisting medical conditions, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He had been transported there recently from the Iowa State Penitentiary due to his declining health. Triplett was 57 years old at the time of his death.

Triplett had been serving a Life sentence for Sex Abuse-1st Degree (709.2) in Scott County. His sentence began on September 8, 2011.
