UPDATED: Man killed after being struck by automobile south of Mason City

RURAL MASON CITY – Police have released the name of a man who was killed after being struck by an automobile south of Mason City Tuesday night.

At about 8:13 PM on March 10, Cerro Gordo County Deputies and Mason City Fire Paramedics responded to a report of a single vehicle vs pedestrian accident near the intersection of 220th Street and Highway 65, South of Mason City. Upon arrival, Deputies found a male subject, identified as Danny Dale Goodroad, 64, of Mason City, had been struck by a vehicle. Mason City Fire Paramedics arrived at the scene and Goodroad was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. During the investigation, Deputies learned that just prior to the accident, Goodroad’s vehicle had been seen by witnesses driving erratically. Shortly after this, Goodroad stopped his vehicle suddenly in the center of the roadway and exited it, directly in the path of another vehicle driving northbound on Highway 65. The northbound vehicle was unable to avoid Goodroad, and he was struck and killed. Deputies were assisted at the scene by MCFD medics and Iowa State Patrol. Highway 65 was closed for about one hour and 20 minutes. The driver of the northbound vehicle, Kaye Mary Krueger, 57, of Mason City, was not injured and no charges are expected for Krueger.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mason City Fire Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
