Alleged arsonist due back in court Monday after guilty plea

MASON CITY – A woman accused of burning down a house in Mason City last month has entered a guilty plea in the case and awaits sentencing.

Mason City police say that on Saturday, September 2 at about 1:48 PM, the Mason City Police Department and the Mason City Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 218 8th Place South East. When police and fire arrived on scene, they discovered a fully engulfed structure. The Mason City Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames resulting in no personal injury or damage to other properties.

During the initial response, police personal were provided information that the fire was intentionally set. Witnesses provided law-enforcement with the name of a possible suspect. The Mason City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division was requested to assist along with the Mason City Fire Department Fire Marshall’s Office as well.

During a joint investigation, it was determined that Donyale Jones, age 29 of Mason City was allegedly responsible for setting the fire. She was charged with Arson 2nd Degree, a Class “C” Felony and transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail for processing. A Class “C” Felony has a $10,000 dollar bond and is punishable up to 10 years in prison.

After originally proclaiming her innocence, Jones has entered into a plea deal in the case, records show, and she will be back in the courtroom Monday for a hearing.

She and the owner, Keith Riser, were the ones who stole the saxophone together. She has been in quite a bit of trouble with the law, including identity theft.

was it intentional or did her meth lab explode
