MASON CITY – A Mason City man allegedly stole from a downtown store and then came back, prompting a call to police, a chase and a struggle.
The incident took place on December 11, 2016. At 12:52 PM that day, a Dollar General employee called police to report a person that was suspected of shoplifting on December 5, 2016 was back in the store. Police responded to ID the male. When police confronted the male, he took off running from the police. Another nearby officer caught the subject, identified as Ryan James Morehead, age 23 of Mason City. During Morehead’s arrest, Morehead allegedly assaulted the officer and resisted arrest. The arresting officer received some superficial injuries to his hand during the arrest.
Morehead was arrested for 1 count of fifth-degree theft (from the December 5 incident), 1 count of Interference with Official Acts (a simple misdemeanor) and Assault on a Peace Officer (a serious misdemeanor). Morehead was jailed and later released, pending a court date.
