Man with meth and weed caught stealing at Walmart convicted of felony

MASON CITY – A man with illegal drugs who was caught stealing at Walmart this year has been sent to jail after being convicted of a felony.

Mason City police responded to Walmart, 4151 4th Street SW in Mason City on Saturday, June 11 at about 4:10 PM on a report of a shoplifter that had left the store. Police officers were able to locate 25-year-old Ryan Sergei Marek, of Forest City. Marek was apprehended and arrested on charges of fifth-degree theft (item under $200.00), tampering with a theft-detection device, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.

Marek later entered a guilty plea to fifth-degree theft as the charge of tampering with a theft-detection device was thrown out. He was ordered to pay $380.00 in fines and court fees. He also pleaded guilty to second-offense possession of meth, a felony. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail with 358 suspended. He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample and put on two years of probation, as a fine was suspended. He must pay an additional $320.00 in court fees and charges.

Marek is also facing a legal entanglement after an incident in Forest City. On June 26, 2016 at 1:00 AM, Marek was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, Interference With Official Acts and Criminal Mischief – 5th Degree. The arrest was a result of a report of a disturbance at a residence on Robb Road. He’ll be arraigned on July 29.

Marek wasn’t finished, though. On June 29,2016 at 10:20 PM, Marek was arrested and charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree public intoxication. The arrest was made following a report of harassment at a residence on Wilson Way. Court date is pending in this case.
