Entrepreneurs’ Exchange to be held March 15 at NIACC

(From NIACC)

Buy Fresh, Buy Local

Iowa has some of the best soils in the world and a good climate for growing crops. Yet, as a state, we import more than 80 percent of our food. The demand for local food is growing. Expanding local food production would help keep dollars in the local community. Crops bought from local growers travel a distance of only 56 miles. Buy Fresh, Buy Local is a nationwide movement that supports local foods for local purchase. Join us for the March 15 Entrepreneurs’ Exchange where Teresa Wiemerslage will talk about what has worked in Iowa with a focus on the success of the Northeast Iowa group and to learn more about the efforts being planned here in North Iowa.

Teresa Wiemerslage is the Program and Communications Coordinator for Iowa State University Extension serving six counties in northeast Iowa. Half of her time is spent coordinating the work of the Northeast Iowa Food & Farm Coalition (NIFF). Teresa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Microbiology and a Masters of Science in Plant Pathology from ISU. She has worked for Extension for over ten years and has a strong background in horticulture and agronomy.
