OK, I’ll say it, terrorism has far more consequences then a gun. Bodacious has a good point, biological warfare is nothing to ignore. Don’t for one second think that a terrorist will never use it against the U.S. They’re just waiting for a chance.

We are NOT prepared for that and we could be. If our enemies set off 3 strategically placed above the USA, it would take more than a year to get back up and running and 90% of the population would be dead.

You know what though? If a child REALLY wants to accidentally kill someone, they’ll do whatever it takes… accidentally build a bomb and kill them, or accidentally poison them, or accidentally fly a plane into them… you can’t stop a child who REALLY wants to accidentally kill other people…they’ll find away. Children are the problem, not guns.
In situations like these, I’d have to say that it’s the unconscious, ignorant parent/guardian that pulled the trigger. Children are curious, and have no idea what damage a gun can do. With all the shit that’s going around about guns, any parent/guardian that leaves a gun laying around should be charged with the damage it causes.
How come Obama pays no attention to the Black on Black shootings that happen every 50 minutes in his hometown of Chitcago? How come he pays no attention to the Black on Black shootings in Baltimore or New York?
LVS, why would he tackle something that he can’t stop. It’s an accepted norm in these cities etc. And, blacks shooting caucasians is OK too.

This was 2-3 years ago but to say he pays no attention to it is incorrect.
He must have forgotten what he said 3 years ago, as it’s not, just a gun issue. When he says, “It’s also an issue of the kinds of communities that we’re building,” what does he mean, we’re building. White people aren’t building the communities his brothers live in where blacks shoot blacks on a daily basis. If he wants to stop some/most of the gun violence, the neighborhoods in the big cities, Chicago, etc. need to start in their own back yards. White people can’t stop it, they get shot if they go there.
When it happens in Benghazi, they blame a video, when It happens here in the states, they blame a gun.
I agree with Katie that we have a mental health problem and it involves primarily the treatment of those with mental problems. That said, the threat that most perceive as a threat, i.e., an armed terrorist group striking against our country is not really what we should be concerned with. The end-all terrorist threat we should be concerned about is the biological warfare threat. 30 gunmen aren’t going to take over this country but a well-placed biological weapon will kill thousands and that could be without even entering our country. I believe our government knows that and they are preparing for that attack whenever and wherever it may occur.

speak for yourself peter, i have been carrying since the mid 80’s and I have been in quite a few situations and only once have I reached for my weapon and that was because the other person was threatening another person with a weapon. Only a person with a weak mind would reach for their weapon on every situation, or someone that thinks we do, hint hint.
If they would just enforce the laws that are already on the books there would not be a problem. It does no good at all to put in new laws that will not be enforced. If we would get crazy people like Lagios off the streets it would be safer for every one. I am contacting the sheriff today to have him arrested and taken to 5 east again for implied threats. Yes, I have made copies of all of them.

It’s a mental health problem and it’s a media problem. The government should make a law prohibiting the release of shooters’ names, punishable by 5 years in jail if anyone releases their identities. No glory, no more guts.

First let me state that I own a gun, legally. I have had access to a gun since I was 9 years old, and I still own that gun. In the last 58 years, that gun has not harmed/killed anyone. Of course I keep it locked in a gun safe, and it has been there for many years. With the gun violence that has been happening, I’m afraid to take it out of the safe. I’m fearful that because it has been locked up for so long, it surely has become deranged and wants to hurt/kill somebody.
I also own a vehicle, and I have owned one for the last 50 years. Unlike the gun that has been locked away, and possibly deranged because of it, the vehicle is used daily, and has not hurt/killed anyone either. I also realize that if you put alcohol or a deranged person in any vehicle, that vehicle has the potential to hurt/kill some one. The same goes for the gun.
Speciously ignorant argument as usual coming from you Allen. Your examples are ludicrous. We all know that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”…that tired analogy has worn thin. More accurately TECHNOLOGY kills people. It’s the technology that allows an explosive projectile to hurl through the air at 1500 fps which makes it quite EASY to kill people. Bombs take time and expertise. Knives are slow and sloppy, and take considerable effort. Sure you can drive your car into a group of people if you can find a crowd gathered…but that doesn’t insure the kind of bloody mayhem that guns deliver. With that said, though, I think the President’s idea for containing the situation are misleading and full of shit.
