PANORA – The NIACC men’s golf team is set to play in the NJCAA Region XI golf tournament Saturday and Sunday at Lake Panorama Golf Course.
The winning team and the next five individuals that aren’t from the winning team qualify for the NJCAA national tournament.
The national tournament is set for May 19-22 in Scottsboro, Ala.
NIACC wrapped up its spring regular season with a second-place finish with a 307 at the Iowa Lakes Invitational at Brooks National Golf Course on Tuesday.
Freshman Sam Steinwand led the Trojans with a 74 (36-38), tying for second, while sophomore Thomas O’Rourke carded a 76 (37-39), tying for fifth. Also for NIACC, Freshman Brandon Nordman had a 78 (38-40), sophomore Hunter Miller shot a 79 (39-40) and freshman Brandon Hebel shot an 82 (44-38).
The 307 by NIACC at the Iowa Lakes Invitational was a season low. The previous best by the Trojans this season was a 309 at the NIACC Invitational on April 16. The 307 was the best for NIACC since the Trojans shot a 301 at last season’s Iowa Lakes Invitational at Brooks National.
NIACC placed fourth at the regional tournament a year ago with Levi Fink placing fourth and qualifing for the national tournament where he claimed the individual national title.
