MASON CITY – A Clarion, Iowa pharmacist has resigned from the Mason City School Board, and it has 30 days to fill the vacancy, while the board moved ahead with a $7 million dollar project at the High School.
A motion was made at Monday night’s school board meeting by board member Jana Arndt and seconded by Scott Warren to accept the resignation submitted by Tim Becker. A unanimous vote was taken.
The board has 30 days to fill the vacancy. According to the Iowa Secretary of State, a vacancy in an elective office occurs when an elected or appointed officeholder dies, resigns, or is removed from office before the end of the term to which the officeholder was elected to serve. A governing body may publish notice of its intention to appoint or its intention to call a special election before the vacancy actually occurs, but appointments cannot be made and special election dates cannot be set until after the vacancy occurs.
A motion was made by Mark Dodd to approve the award of the low base bid of $5,575,00.00 plus the Alternates G-1 through G-7 to Henkel Construction Co. and to approve the total construction contract of $7,001,200.00 for the Mason City Community Schools Phase 6B renovations and Mechanical Upgrades Project.
If they don’t pick you, then you can get signatures to force an election. Don’t play the “good old boy” card.

Not part of the good old boys club either but, if I lived in the district, I would seriously think about it, boys club non-member or not.
@bodacious-They have already picked out his replacement. What the public wants has nothing to do with it in this town and especially with the school board. They do what they want.
