MASON CITY – The NIACC men’s soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 loss to Century College Saturday on the NIACC campus.

Century College (1-0) received the game-winning goal from Jordan Seib with 9:42 left in the game.

“We had a distinct game plan, which was to hold them down and contain them and get them on the break,” NIACC coach Jonathan Platt said. “We had two great one-one one chance on another day we are up 2-1.

“It just didn’t quite happen (Saturday). We finally got the equalizer after some pressure. We just couldn’t get that final bit.”

Seib also scored Centurry’s goal in the first half.

NIACC returns to action Sunday, Aug. 31 at home against Oakton Community College. Match time is set for noon.

Notes – Saturday’s match was the first men’s soccer match between NIACC and Century College … NIACC has a career men’s soccer record of 111-112-10 … Platt, who is in his third year as coach of the Trojans, has a career record of 10-23-1 … NIACC is 7-7 overall in season openers.
