Felon arrested for drunk driving in golf cart

MASON CITY – A convicted felon was arrested this weekend for allegedly driving a golf cart on a city street while intoxicated.

A Mason City police officer stopped Rusty Lewis Kopps, age 26, while he was driving a golf cart near 13th Street and North Washington Avenue.  Kopps was determined by the officer to be intoxicated and arrested for second offense operating while intoxicated, no insurance and unlawful operation of a golf cart on a roadway.

Kopps was last caught for drunk driving by Cerro Gordo deputies in 2012.  He was assessed $3,013.75 in fines and fees, and has failed to make a payment on that balance.  Kopps was charged with felony burglary in 2010 in Winnebago county and given a deferred judgment, but proceeded to violate terms of his probation at least three times before a judge revoked his deferred sentence.

Well, at least is wasn’t something with a loud muffler on it. I know golf carts don’t have doors on them, but some people have even been known to drive vehicles without any doors and fenders, then they wonder why they got stopped. Can you believe that????

@Buzz-careful there. Someone will threaten to take you to court for post anonymously on a anonymous site because you won’t bow down to their threats.

@LVS….thank you very much for the warning about being taken to court. Funny how that works, they want to take a person to the same court system they continually find fault with.

I wonder if inhaling old rubber tire dust is messing with their ability to reason and act like normal people or if the are just mentally challenged and can’t help it.?

Buzz, in the name of LIBERATION, yes, some do.

P.s. That reporter gal Jody Spear actually got it wrong. It wasn’t “creative self expression” that man was after, it was Freedom and Liberty.

just another damn criminal allowed to run the streets. He won’t pay his fines and will just keep on breaking the law.

Yes, being intoxicated on a golf cart is a potential hazard, but in general, golf carts and other electric, alternative transport systems should be allowed. I’m tired of the monopoly by the internal combustion engine. I want to see other forms of transpo utilizing the roadways.

A golf cart, shit the cops should of let him go maybe a semi would of run over this loser!

How can these people keep getting fines but never make a payment?
Every time I read about 2nd and 3rd offenders they never seem to have paid any of their fines from their previous arrests.
Why do the courts keep letting them off with just penalties they will never pay. Very frustrating!!
