MC man who ran from cops faces probation revocation and other charges

MASON CITY – A man who pled guilty to eluding police and was granted a generous plea deal is now in jail facing a probation revocation hearing and new charges brought by Clear Lake police.

Kenneth Charles Filbrandt, age 30, was arrested on May 5th after he refused to stop for police. He led them on a 2-minute car chase before he dumped the car and ran on foot. In addition to being wanted on warrants, Filbrandt was additionally charged with eluding, driving while barred, possession of drug paraphernalia and other traffic charges.

In a plea deal struck on May 14th, Filbrandt – a violent convicted felon – pled guilty only to eluding and driving while barred and was given a 30 day jail term, fines, and a two year probation term.

On July 18th, the Iowa Department of Corrections issued a notice of probation violation by Filbrandt, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A Cerro Gordo county deputy arrested him four days later on July 22nd. Filbrandt posted $2,000 cash bond and awaits an August 1 court hearing on his probation revocation charge. He could face up to 2 years in prison and fines if revoked fully.

Complicating matters for Filbrandt, he was arrested by Clear Lake police on July 21st for possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief in the fourth degree. A trial date was set for January 22, 2015.
