September 29, 1932 — March 28, 2026

Ardis L. Sansgaard, 93, of Humboldt, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt.

Ardis was born on September 29, 1932, in Story County, Iowa, the daughter of Chester Carle and Ethel Marie (Sweet) Severson. She was raised in the Maxwell area and later moved with her family to Humboldt while in the fifth grade. She graduated from Humboldt High School and, on August 19, 1951, was united in marriage to Robert W. Fevold. Together, they farmed and raised their family, with Ardis playing an active and devoted role in daily farm life.

Following Robert’s passing, Ardis found love again and was united in marriage to Lowell V. Sansgaard on March 14, 1987. The couple made their home in Ames, where they enjoyed their years together.

Ardis was a woman of many talents and interests. She found joy in sewing, gardening, canning, playing cards, snowmobiling, and square dancing. Her creativity shone through in the handmade cards she lovingly crafted and in the three children’s books she authored. She was an active member in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, where she participated in church circles. She also enjoyed her involvement in the Red Hat Society and treasured the friendships she shared in her coffee groups.

Family was the heart of Ardis’s life. She was a devoted caregiver to many loved ones over the years, offering compassion, strength, and unwavering support.

Ardis is survived by her children: Lauri Westfall of Canton, Georgia; Sherry (Harvey) Evans and Kathy (Jeff) Davis, both of Humboldt; and Becky (Doug) Prior of Spirit Lake. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Shon (Samantha) Westfall; Brooke Steele; Brittany (Matt) Sell; Jordyn (Jacob) Workman; Matthew (Rachel) Haynes; Andy Haynes; Trey Evans (Kayla Ritts); Kelsey (Connor) Almond; Whitney Evans (Joshua Weber); Jacob Reimers (Rachel Wederquist); Justine (Tony) Stone; KyLee (Tyler) Fischer; Michael Gargano; Austen Gargano (Verity Kang); and Abbey Gargano; as well as 31 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters, Beverly Keen of Storm Lake and Sheryl Lundien of Springfield, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Robert and Lowell; her daughter, LeAnn Haynes; her brother, Norman Severson; sister, Jean Robinson and son-in-law, Randy Westfall.
