DES MOINES – This Iowa man allegedly beat a woman senseless with his fists during a traffic altercation – and was free at the time of the incident even though he had earlier been accused of heinous crimes like attempted murder – and although he fled the scene, cops eventually tracked him down to stand trial.

Detectives in Iowa’s capital city requested the community’s help with locating a suspect in a “road rage” assault that took place last fall.

“Evidence indicates that 20-year-old Kevin Dobbins III punched the 20-year-old female victim multiple times, and then attempted to strike her with his vehicle on Oct. 26th, near E. 14th St and Morton Avenue, Des Moines police alerted.

“Dobbins also has felony Probation Violation warrants for Willful Injury and Robbery,” police warned, indicating Dobbins’ violent past. Court records indicated the suspect, despite his youth, has faced a litany of heinous charges in his past, including conspiracy (dismissed); attempted murder (dismissed); willful injury (deferred judgement); going armed with intent (dismissed); and robbery (deferred judgement – but on probation only since 2025).

Dobbins was sought on an arrest warrant after the attack, and he was finally nabbed in November and has been held in the Polk county jail ever since (on $3,000 cash-only bail), on the following charges:

  • AGMS 708.2(1) ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO INFLICT SERIOUS INJURY (NO SERIOUS INJURY)
  • SRMS 708.2(2) ASSAULT CAUSING BODILY INJURY OR MENTAL ILLNESS (NO INTENT)
  • AGMS 708.2(3) ASSAULT WHILE DISPLAYING A DANGEROUS WEAPON
  • SRMS 708.7(3) HARASSMENT – 2ND DEGREE

A public defender was appointed to represent Dobbins.  Records indicate a plea deal has been reached, and a sentencing hearing is set for April 13.
