WEVER, IOWA — A late-night rollover accident in Lee County has claimed the lives of two Iowa residents, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:31 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Investigators determined that a 2000 Lexus 400, driven by 61-year-old Scott Edwards of Fort Madison, was traveling northbound on Green Bay Road. Near the 1600 block, the vehicle crossed the center line and entered the west ditch. The car then struck an embankment and came to rest on its top in a field entrance.

Both Edwards and his passenger, 50-year-old Shawna Hutson of Wever, were fatally injured in the collision. According to the state patrol, Hutson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while Edwards was not. Both individuals were transported from the scene by King-Lynk Funeral Home to the state medical examiner’s office in Ankeny.

The vehicle was heavily damaged and removed from the scene by Dunkin Towing. Trooper Ellison of the Iowa State Patrol Post 13 is leading the investigation into why the vehicle left the roadway.

Authorities were assisted at the scene by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Wever Fire Department, and Lee County Ambulance.
