Shey William Pals, 39, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in his hometown. He was born on June 8, 1986, in Mason City. Though his time here was far too short, he will be remembered forever by those who loved him.

Shey, also known to many as “SlapYehs,” lived a life filled with creativity, connection, and a true zest for living. He had a deep love for music and self expression, often creating songs and beats that spoke from the heart. Music and poetry were meaningful outlets for Shey, allowing him to share his thoughts and emotions with honesty and authenticity. Through his artistry, he touched the lives of many who connected with his work.

Shey was known for his vibrant spirit, infectious smile, and warm sense of humor. He had a way of lighting up a room and bringing laughter to those around him. Some of his most cherished moments were spent skateboarding through town or spending time at the family garage with his niece and nephews, enjoying the simple moments that meant the most to him.

An active and adventurous soul, Shey enjoyed sports in his younger years and especially treasured the time he spent fishing with his grandfather. He also enjoyed swimming, biking, fishing, and skateboarding, always finding ways to stay active and connect with the world around him. These activities reflected his boundless energy and his appreciation for life.

Shey is lovingly remembered by his mother, Deanna Pals; He is also survived by his grandmother, Lois Pals; his uncle, Dave Pals (Kim Wasicek); and his aunts, Theresa Pals and Sheila Richardson (Bruce Richardson); as well as numerous cousins who love Shey and will miss him.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerry Pals, and his aunt, Candy Nichols.

Although there were many things Shey still hoped to accomplish in life, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
