DES MOINES – An Iowa woman was brutally knifed by the man she lived with, police say, and after they carried her to a waiting ambulance, they located the suspect.

A 33-year-old female is recovering in a local hospital after being stabbed by her domestic partner late Friday night, police explained.  Shortly after 11:00 PM, Des Moines patrol officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2800 block of Grand Avenue to investigate a report of a domestic argument. A second call reported that a person had been stabbed.

Officers working on an unrelated investigation a block away arrived quickly, and found the victim in a stairwell. The victim had lost a significant amount of blood. Officers applied a tourniquet to the victim’s arm to stop the blood loss, and then carried the victim to a Des Moines Fire Department ambulance as it arrived. Care continues at a local hospital, and the victim is expected to survive.

A suspect, 42-year-old Lewis Henry Miller (pictured at top), was located nearby and taken into custody without incident.

Evidence in the investigation indicates that Miller had attacked the victim within the apartment they shared, cutting her arm, neck, and hand. Miller has been charged with the following offenses:

• Domestic Abuse Assault – 3rd or Subsequent Offense (Class D felony)
• Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury (Class C felony)

Miller remains jailed as he awaits a court appearance.
