Fort Dodge plagued by unexplained, suspicious house fires

FORT DODGE – Police in Fort Dodge say their community has been plagued by unexplained, suspicious house fires recently.

On Wednesday, July 20th at approximately 7:31 A.M., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call, in reference to a residential fire. The caller indicated that the residence located at 502 N 17th St in Fort Dodge was on fire. The Fort Dodge Fire Department, along with the Fort Dodge Police Department responded to the scene.

Fort Dodge Fire was able to take control, but the residence sustained heavy damage. Upon further investigation into the potential cause of the fire, it appeared to be suspicious in nature. Patrol Officers and Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing to follow up on this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fort Dodge Police.

There have been three (3) other residential fires that have occurred within the City over the past month. While the source of each ignition in these other fires is not currently known, we do not believe any of these fires are connected. We are and will continue to investigate each of them, and update the public with additional findings, once known.

– 318 S 18th St
– 717 3rd Ave N.W.

The Fort Dodge Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance. Anyone who may have information, or video evidence of the area around this time, is encouraged to contact the police department.
