November 21, 1935 – January 7, 2026
Arlene Eleanor Satern, 90, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at the Osage Rehab and Health Care Center.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
Arlene was born on November 21, 1935, in Whittemore, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Fredrick and Myrtle (Thompson) Hedin. She grew up in Whittemore and graduated from Whittemore High School.
In 1955, Arlene married Conrad Satern, and together they shared many years of marriage and raised four children. Throughout her life, Arlene worked various jobs in the area, but her most meaningful and rewarding work was as a daycare provider in her own home. For many years, she lovingly cared for countless children while running her daycare from the family home in Forest City, where she was known for her patience, dedication, and nurturing spirit.
At one point, Arlene and her family moved to Florida for a couple of years before eventually returning to Iowa to be closer to family.
In her free time, Arlene found joy in being outdoors, especially gardening and tending to her yard. She took great pride in keeping her surroundings neat and well cared for. Only in the past few years did she begin to slow down, as until then she was rarely still, always moving and maintaining a well cared for yard and garden.
Arlene was also a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.
Those left to cherish memories of Arlene are her children Bruce of Tennessee, Dave of Nora Springs, Iowa, Michael of Mason City, Iowa and Becky Satern of Tennessee; grandchildren, Melissa, Brad, Erika (Giovanni) and Leah; great grandchildren, Blake, Brandon, Wyatt, Shya, and Pyper; great-great grandchildren, Easton and Esperanza; brother, David (Betty) Frost; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Arlene is preceded in death by her husband Conrad, her parents, and her brothers, Mervin Hedin, Ronald Hedin and Victor Frost.
