WASHINGTON – U.S. special forces today executed Operation Absolute Resolve, using over 150 aircraft and cyber ops to grab Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, from their home. Maduro faces longstanding New York charges for narco-terrorism and cocaine trafficking tied to a 2020 indictment.
President Donald J. Trump called it a stunning show of military might and plans U.S. oversight of Venezuela’s transition to revive its oil industry, sparking celebrations among Venezuelans but condemnations from Maduro allies claiming deaths and a kidnapping.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said back in July that Maduro is not the President of Venezuela nor is his regime legitimate. Former President Joe Biden promised years ago to nab Maduro – but did not deliver, despite putting a bounty on his head.
Nicolas Maduro was loaded into the USS Iwo Jima after his capture, the White House said.
Leading up to the moment of capture, President Trump said, “He was in a house that was more like a fortress than a house. It had steel doors, it had what they call a safety space where it’s solid steel… He was trying to get into it, but he got bum rushed so fast that he didn’t.”
After the successful operation, in which no U.S. troops were seriously hurt, President Trump said the United States is going to run the country of Venezuela.
“We don’t want to be involved with having somebody else get in, and we have the same situation that we had for the last long period of years,” President trump explained.
“So we are going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition, and it has to be judicious because that’s what we’re all about.
“Other presidents may have lacked the courage or whatever to defend America, but I will never allow terrorists and criminals to operate with impunity against the United States.
“This extremely successful operation should serve as warning to anyone who would threaten American sovereignty or endanger American lives.”
In 2024, Trump buddy Elon Musk promised, “I’m coming for you Maduro!” Today he simply posted “FAFO” after the operation ended.
In a possibly-connected development, just hours before Operation Absolute Resolve, Chinese diplomats were in Venezuela to work on closer ties between the nations. China is obviously a foe of America on the World stage and is seeking greater influence in the Western Hemisphere. Chinese officials arrived in Venezuela for talks with President Nicolás Maduro, as pictured below, from BRICS News.

Interesting side light of this. Russia moved all their embassy personnel out of Venezuela two weeks before trump’s illegal invasion.
