MASON CITY – This troubled young woman, fresh off of probation in a sex assault case and accused of a swath of local crimes involving thievery and mething, decided to flee Mason City police, and once caught, she was jailed and quickly released.

Records show Sarina Jenny Burgin lives in Mason City and is a mere 19 years of age.  She should have the world at her fingertips, not a meth pipe now someone else’s credit card. However, it was reported that in 2024, Burgin was nabbed down in Crawford county for sexual assault. A Denison newspaper reported, “Burgin, 18, of Alden, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse” for a crime she committed there on April 21, 2024. Records show a judge gave her a deferred judgement, lowered the offense to assault with intent to cause pain, and gave her 6-months of probation at a January 31, 2025 sentencing. In fact, Iowa courts called it “informal probation” with “no supervision.” The judge slapped a bill owed to Iowa courts for $616.10 upon the convict, and she has so far paid exactly zero on the balance.

Judge Rustin Davenport

In the meantime, Burgin has landed in the North Iowa area, allegedly now calls Mason City home, and she has given the MCPD a run for their money. In April of this year, she was busted for theft and a judge threw the charge out. She was nabbed with weed in Franklin county in June, and the charge was thrown out. She was also accused of felony B ongoing criminal conduct by Mason City police in June. Police had said that she used someone else’s credit card to run up a tidy bill of nearly $1,500, and in November she was found guilty in a plea deal.  Judge Rustin Davenport sentenced her to 365 days in jail (all but 60 days suspended), a year of probation, and a bill owed to Iowa court of $442.50. A judge threw out charges of ongoing criminal conduct.

Reportedly, on August 5, Burgin was nabbed by a deputy while hiding in a car with meth in Franklin county and charged with felony drug possession. She is represented by allegedly reformed panty thief / attorney Richard Tompkins in this case. She awaits a January 22, 2026 hearing in the case.

Despite her mounting legal entanglements and burgeoning criminal resume, Burgin decided to test Mason City police again. On December 27, at 4:21 AM in the morning, she decided to flee from Mason City police in an apparent traffic stop attempt near 6th Street SE and South Connecticut Avenue. The pursuit finally ended and Burgin was arrested on the following charges:

  • 719.1(1)(b) – INTERFERENCE WITH OFFICIAL ACTS
  • 321.279(1)(A) – ELUDING
  • 321.561 – DRIVING WHILE BARRED-HABITUAL
  • 321.20B – FAILURE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF FINANCIAL
  • VIOLATING ONE-WAY TRAFFIC DESIGNATION

Burgin was booked into the Cerro Gordo county jail that morning and released that very day on her own recognizance. She now awaits a preliminary hearing set for January 12, 2026.
