CLEAR LAKE – The Clear Lake Police Department is joining the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) and other law enforcement agencies statewide this holiday season in support of a high‐visibility enforcement campaign sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), running now through January 1, 2026.

Extra patrols are being conducted to spread the message about the grave dangers of impaired driving. Impaired driving is the leading cause of deadly crashes, with an average of 37% of fatal crashes being impaired‐related. Chief Michael Colby asks for all Iowans to help keep our roads safe, ensuring 2025 has the least crash related fatalities Iowa has seen in 100 years. The power
rests in all of us to make wise decisions as we head into the last few weeks of the year. Clear Lake Officers will be out working extra shifts looking for impaired drivers. He added “Drive impaired you will see more than just holiday lights in Clear Lake and Ventura, you’ll get to see flashing red and blue lights behind you as well. Please drive sober.”

Plan to get home safely by designating a sober driver or arranging a ride, police advised.
