June 22, 1947 ~ December 14, 2025
Lawrence “Larry” L. Lovelace, age 78, of Riceville, IA, died on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City, IA.
Services for Larry will be held in Spring/Summer 2026 with burial in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Lawrence La Verne Lovelace was born on June 22, 1947, in Webster City, IA, son of Louis and Noretta (Healey) Lovelace. He graduated from Webster City High School, and enlisted with the United States Army on October 3, 1966. Larry was a Purple Heart recipient which he earned while serving his country during the Vietnam War. He lived with a piece of shrapnel in his back from the bullet wound he sustained; never complaining about pain from the injury or shrapnel. On September 21, 1968, he was honorably discharged from his military service.
Larry was a Tool & Die Maker by trade; which allowed him to easily find a job wherever he moved. While living and working in Waterloo, Larry happened to enter a bar where a cute young gal by the name of Sharon was bartending. After asking Sharon out on a date on three separate occasions, she finally accepted his offer. The couple married in Waterloo in 1981 and moved to California for seven years. Larry and Sharon moved back to Iowa and settled in Riceville.
During his retirement years, Larry had a hard time being idle. He was constantly on the go, enjoying trips with Sharon, driving to visit family and friends, or trying his luck at a casino. Larry enjoyed playing golf and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Las Vegas Raiders play football.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Lovelace of Riceville, IA; son Randy (Susan) Flugge of Martinez, CA, and their son Ryan Flugge; daughter Jody (Tim) Maddock of Livingston, TX, and their children James Parsons of Honolulu, HI, and Heather (Matthew) Laub of Beaufort, SC; 7 great grandchildren; brothers Louis (Sandy) Lovelace of IA, Tom (Debbie) Lovelace of IL, and Dave (Charlene) Lovelace of WA; sister Pat (Mike) Brower of MO; and sister-in-law Cindy Lovelace of IA.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Craig, sister Linda, and son Brian “BJ” Flugge.
